With it being just after Thanksgiving, this post on Discovering Colonial Immigrant Ancestors intrigued me. I clicked the link and went to the youtube video. A lot of what Crista Cowan - The Barefoot Genealogist said I've already done.
I had success! I had success much better than I had ever expected! The first link I clicked on had a whole chapter on my actual ancestor. I read it once, twice and actually am waiting for a few moments to read it again. I want to pull every little piece of information I can from it and enter it into my tree.
After my initial success, I entered other names without finding my ancestors. I did find lots of great information about the time, town or city, and the trials & tribulations they lived with everyday. And actually understanding that has lead me to more discoveries about them.
I also found that this category, that I'd never thought of before, has thousands of resources like published family histories, biographical sketches, oral histories, social and place histories and more than I can ever begin to mention. Go check it out today!
